Summary

Drive the success of our transportation network by safely and efficiently moving product where it needs to be. As a Short Haul Driver, you will operate a tractor-trailer on assigned routes between company facilities, customers, and distribution locations, supporting both drop-and-hook and live load/unload operations. You will ensure full compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards while representing the Perdue Farms brand with professionalism and reliability. This role is ideal for a dependable, safety-focused driver who thrives in a fast-paced environment, adapts to changing routes and schedules, and takes pride in delivering consistent, high-quality service.

Principal Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safely maneuver and transport truckloads of product and materials to plants, customers, and distributors as assigned.
  • Perform drop-and-hook operations and equipment interchanges, including live loading and unloading when required.
  • Comply with all DOT requirements, including hours of service, electronic logging (ELD), vehicle inspections, load inspections, and load security.
  • Operate tractor-trailer equipment in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations and company safety policies.
  • Utilize onboard safety features, vehicle tracking systems, and logging tools efficiently and accurately.
  • Complete and submit all required documentation, including manifests, bills of lading.
  • Verify seal integrity and ensure accurate case counts and product condition at pickup and delivery locations.
  • Transport loads outside of typical routes, schedules, or customer assignments as needed to support operational demands.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of over-the-road tractor-trailer driving experience.
  • Valid Class A CDL license.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Refrigerated trailer experience preferred.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods within DOT regulations.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to sleep while another driver operates the vehicle, when applicable.
  • Tolerance for vibration, road conditions, fuel and oil exposure, noise, and extreme temperatures (0–100°F).
  • Willingness to travel to customers, distributors, and plant locations, including remote sites.
